Jess Green’s Bright Sparks – Tinkly Tinkly

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Tinkly Tinkly by Jess Green’s Bright Sparks

Guitarist and composer Jess Green leads some of Sydney’s finest jazz musicians on an album that excels in its diversity. Almost nine years since her last release, The Bright Sparks are Jess Green, Bree van Reyk (percussion), Dan Juror (Alto Sax), Matt Keegan (Tenor Sax), Simon Ferenci (Trumpet), John Hibbard (Trombone), Zoe Hauptmann (Bass) and Evan Mannell (Drums).

Tinky Tinkly sees Jess eclectically blend Jazz, Afro, light rock and minimal music with both subtle and heavier hitting effects. Tales unfurl through every track on the album. What may begin as a tribal jazz sound often turns into minimal experimentation or afro rock grooves.  It’s the unpredictability and multi layered depths which make the release so captivating. Look out particularly for ‘Bamako Youth’ an absolute corker of a track that sublimely blends rural afro and jazz with such powerful intimacy.

Be sure to catch Jess Green and her Bright Sparks for the launch of Tinkly Tinkly this Saturday 16th February at the Sound Lounge!

Tinkly Tinkly is a release by Yum Yum Tree Records. For more information go to jessgreen.com.au
