67th Australian Jazz Convention heads to Forbes, 26th – 31st December
The 67th Australian Jazz Convention will explode throughout Forbes between Christmas and New Year’s Eve filling the streets and local venues with live music. Featuring bands and buskers and an impressive array of food and wine what better way to welcome in the New Year as a jazz musician.
The Australian Jazz Convention is the longest running annual jazz convention in the world, ‘convention’ being the key word – this is not your average festival! Aimed at jazz musicians and enthusiasts rather than the general public the event provides a platform for sharing ideas and making music with like-minded people whilst promoting jazz in Australia.
It all began in post-war golden days of 1946 when a group of young RAAF musicians returned to the excitement of peacetime Australia bringing with them the fresh sounds bursting out of America. The support of the Australian jazz community has seen the event go from strength to strength and has run annually since at different venues in every state.
Musicians are invited to attend for a nominal fee and can register on the day for the full program. Non-musical folk can also attend, of course! Bring a saxophone!
Activities include daily jazz breakfasts, nightly concerts, street parade, song competition and Gospel service. On New Years Eve day the AGM will be held giving jazz organisations from around the country the opportunity to apply to host the convention.
Full details including a history of the convention can be found on their website.
