Antenna Documentary Film Festival
6 intensive days of films, Q&As, talks and masterclasses.
Antenna is Australia’s international documentary film festival, with a line-up of the most creative and thought-provoking documentaries from the past year. This year’s program includes 48 films from 23 different countries.
The festival provides Sydneysiders with the opportunity to connect with the wider world through stories that range from the humourous to the shocking, the real to the surreal, the previously unknown and unseen, to the commonalities of human experience. The festival program is also made up of 3 film competitions, Q&As, masterclasses by local and international guests, industry forum DocTalk at the Museum of Contemporary Art, and other special events.
World premieres include the City of Sydney supported film, The Eviction (FKA On The Rocks) about Millers Point – location of the Sirius Building. It follows local residents, and best friends since birth, Bob and Barney, who as the stress of eviction looms, put it all on the line to save their community.
Amongst the many international highlights, there are startling and anticipated films like Aquarela by renowned director Victor Kossakovsky, which will take viewers on a deeply cinematic, continent-crossing journey through the transformative beauty and raw power of the earth’s most precious resource, following its world premiere at Venice.
There’s also a retrospective program from acclaimed and visiting provocative Russian director now exiled to Latvia, Vitaly Mansky, whose latest film Putin’s Witnesses opens the festival.
Festival tickets on sale now, with multi-passes also available.

Newtown Good Food Fair
If you were to pinpoint the centre of the inner-west suburb of Newtown, you’d probably say the area opposite the train station around Newtown Square and Eliza Street. That’s where the Good Food Fair happens – an annual event that celebrates the vibrant district and highlights it as a key Sydney food and drink destination.
On Sunday 14 October, more than 30 local restaurant and drink vendors will run stalls, including Enmore’s Chinese restaurant Queen Chow, burger bar Mary’s and farm-to-table eatery Acre. Pair their snacks with a drink from the area’s most famous beer-makers Young Henrys, nearby pub the Courthouse or natural-wine bottle shop P&V Wine & Liquor Merchants. For dessert, Australia Street’s Black Star Pastry and Gelato Messina will be there.
“We’ve grown this event over the past five years and we’re proud it’s now become an anticipated day out on the Sydney foodie calendar,” said Liz Dickson, the vice president of the Newtown Precinct Business Association (NPBA), which represents small businesses in the area, in an official statement.
Presented by the NPBA, the fair includes fundraising initiatives to support the Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, such as the Homeless Outreach program. There are various ways patrons can help with the fundraising efforts: a donation buys a cuddle with animals at the Kindifarm at Newtown Square, or you can submerge a Newtown local at the dunk tank.
