Something Else 9 July – Ella Gibbins and Spoken Word
On today’s show we spoke with young film maker Ella Gibbins about what drives her love of film. Ella is a young filmmaker studying Media Arts and Production at the University of Technology Sydney. She has been passionate about becoming a cinematographer since a very young age and has both directed and shot multiple music videos and short films.
You can find her work on www.ellagibbins.com and at www.theloop.com.au/ellamarieg
In the second half of the show, I played a couple of tracks from a couple of Australia’s best spoken word poets Emilie Zoey Baker and Sean M Whelan.
Emilie Zoey Baker is a multiple slam competition champion and now organiser of the Victorian arm of the Australian Poetry Slam. She has performed all over Australia and will be appearing at the upcoming Berlin International Literature Festival. At her recent Sydney Writers’ Festival appearance, Emilie Zoey Baker was mesmerising and electric, cutting through the Sydney night like a feminist force of nature.
You can hear more of Emilie at her myspace at: www.myspace.com/emiliezoeybaker
Sean M Whelan is a cowboy poet. Hailing from Melbourne, Sean, along with his band The Mime Set, tantalises listeners with poetic stories about encounters, love, music and space. He has performed at writers’
festivals all over Australia as well as touring the US and Canada last year.
