Lior: Leaving the Western Shadows

As he reaches the end of an action-packed twelve months, Lior takes a moment to reflect upon the year gone by with a one-off collaborative concert alongside AYO’s Momentum Ensemble. The orchestra will be directed by conductor Nigel Westlake, whose previous endeavours with Lior have included the co-creation of the award-winning song cycle CompassionLeaving the Western Shadows is Lior’s personally curated collection of songs, featuring orchestral arrangements of his most celebrated music, including Bedouin Song, Daniel and This Old Love; plus a handful of his favourite tracks from his most recent album, Between You and Me.

The orchestra itself is one of immense creative flair, comprising Australia’s most promising young instrumentalists – each on the cusp of their professional careers. Powered by the Australian Youth Orchestra, Momentum Ensemble equips these musicians with a diverse set of skills, and gives them the opportunity to experience orchestral music-making beyond the realm of the traditional concert hall.

The joining of forces between Lior and this energetic young ensemble promises to capture the characteristic Middle Eastern sounds of Lior’s music, with an enchanting twist. Join them for a journey through some evocative arrangements of the songs we all know and love.
