At 10:40 am, Laila Ellmoos brings us the final part of Events that Shaped Sydney and we conclude with the Thalium Enthusiasms.
My special guest at 11:00 am is Michael Atherton, musician, academic, author and all round musical genius, reputed to be able to play just about every musical instrument known to mankind. This week, the subject is the hurdy gurdy, a truly extraordinary instrument, with features of a lute, a violin, the bagpipes and a barrel organ. Michael brought his instrument into the studio to demonstrate. The cover image of a hurdy gurdy is an enlarged detail from The Garden of Earthly Delights, painted in the late 15th century by Hieronymous Bosch. By then, it was already an ancient instrument!
Music will mostly feature music featuring the hurdy gurdy and music from those countries where the hurdy gurdy was and is still played.
As always, I look froward to your company.
