Makerspace school holiday workshops
Sensational series of free creative workshops for kids aged 5 to 12 years.
Schools out, so to celebrate, we’ve got free hands-on making sessions for kids. They’ll have fun while they get creative with electronics and robotics. Just BYO imagination and get constructing.
This school holidays we’ll be exploring motion, electronics and robotics.
Spheros robots: 8-12 years
Learn about coding with the world’s first app-enabled robotic ball. Navigate our Sphero robots through obstacle courses and challenges.

Wind tube: 5-8 years
Make a flying machine from recycled materials and watch it soar.
• Kings Cross Library – Tuesday 23 April
Balloon rocket: 5-8 years
Make a rocket out of a balloon and challenge other makers to see who goes the fastest.
• Haymarket Library – Wednesday 24 April
Workshops are free, however bookings are recommended as places are limited.
Everything is provided, and parents or guardians need to stay in the library during the session.

Marie Widolf: Gertrude's Kitchen
In her second solo exhibition, the artist brings us more mayhem and fun from her cartoon character.
Gertrude’s Kitchen just in time for Easter and Mother’s Day!
Following her exhibition at Waverley Library Galleries in 2018, Gertrude still daydreams in her kitchen where her plucked roast chickens roam and bring chaos, where her cooking ingredients escape from her mixing bowl, and where she has to duck in recurring fried-egg rains. Finding recipes bothersome and suffering form stove-angst, Gertrude instead daydreams and uses her kitchen to practice her pilates-moves and leg-extensions.
With her trademark polka-dot and floral onesies, her yoga-slippers, large glasses and tight curls, Gertrude appeals to both young and old, as we all perhaps recognize a bit of ourselves in her. Marie Widolf’s cartoon-character Gertrude is her alter-ego, and she is based on her own failures and disasters in her own kitchen!
Created in 2015, and launched at the ArtSHINE Gallery in 2017, Marie was represented by the gallery at the 2018 Surtex Trade and Licensing Show in New York. Some of Marie’s New York portfolio will be part of her new exhibition.
All 23 artworks will be for sale, with 30% being donated to the Prince of Wales Hospital Foundation, which raises funds for patient care, research, and education. This is an exhibition to be enjoyed by the whole family.
Marie invites us to meet Gertrude. Get a glimpse into Gertrude’s world where she barely makes it to the chopping board, and where she falls into a surreal-scale tea-pot while making a cup of tea!

Anzac Day Coloured Diggers March
Come and join our Indigenous brothers and sisters, the community and our veterans for the annual ANZAC Day Coloured Diggers March.
Gather at the Redfern Community Centre for entertainment, and a cuppa from 11am.
From 2pm we march in honour of our Coloured Diggers to Redfern Oval for ceremony and recognition – it’s for all in our community to join us!

Andrew Peacock: Bhutan - Dancing Colour
Exhibition at Ted's World of Imaging Gallery
Adventure Travel photographer Andrew Peacock presents an abstract colour series of large format limited edition framed photographic prints from Bhutan.
He spent two days photographing at a festival (or tshechu) at a beautiful monastery in the small remote district of Gasa in northwest Bhutan.
His aim was to try and communicate something of the colour and movement of the performers.
The result is a series of gorgeous colour abstract archival framed prints on display at Ted’s World of Imaging during store opening hours.
Entry is free.
Andrew will be giving an in-store presentation on 27 April at 10.30am.

Frida Kahlo: Viva La Vida
Humberto Robles’s seminal work inspired by the icon's documents, materials and memoirs.
On the Day of the Dead, Frida Kahlo is cooking. While she waits for her guests to arrive, she evokes Diego Rivera, Nelson Rockefeller, Leon Trotsky, exposes her opinion on art, Mexico, the US, France and the memory of her terrible accident and the presence of death.
Humberto Robles’s seminal work Viva La Vida, inspired by authentic documents, materials and memoirs from Frida Kahlo, reveals the woman behind the icon, the artist beyond the face printed on millions of bags, wallets and other paraphernalia.
