Jammin’ Thursday

Thursdays 7AM

Presented by Josh Duffy

During Joshua’s high school days he had the privilege of learning to play drums from an enigmatic New York jazz drummer named Jacob Sevush (Jack Savage). Unfortunately, Josh did not take too well to the skins, but he did take with him the sounds and smells of the vibing New York scene that Jack talked about with such high esteem. He had played amongst the likes of Buddy Rich, Tommy Dorsey and Gene Krupa. “It was poifect, Josh. Now how do ya spell that again?” Every lesson Josh would have to repeat, “p..o..i..f..e..c…t.” “That’s right, now don’t you forget it!”

Joshua started on Jazz Funk Compilations, Jazz Blues, New Orleans Jazz, Big Band Jazz, and later developed a steady interest in Modern, Acid, Lo-fi and Automated Jazz that has its underground roots in Berlin, London and Japan. But for Joshua, there is nothing more romantic than experiencing the live scene that Sydney has to offer. Joshua was a regular fiend for hanging out at the old 505 and playing scrabble, popping in for a tipple at the Cricketers Arms or Low 302 for the Wednesday jams. For Joshua, Sydney has always had an incredible underbelly of experimental talent such as Tangents, Godtet, or Coast, or even stalwart proliferators like The Java Quartet. Joshua is an avid researcher of music and a community collaborator with an addiction for spreading well painted stories of sound.
