ARTS WEDNESDAY 18 AUGUST 2010

I am really sorry that last week’s program had to be cancelled – I came down with a truly nasty flu that saw me bedridden for most of the week! I’m still coughing and spluttering but at the helm!

Jonathan James will be in the studio for Now Showing at about 9:45 am and Tracy le Cornu will present Investing in Art at about 10:10 am.

Don Spencer, who was to have been my special guest last week, came down with very nasty flu and although we rescheduled the interview for tomorrow, he is just not well enough to come into the studio. We will catch up with him later in the year and talk about his wonderful Australian Children’s Music Foundation.

At the 10:30 am slot, I will play an interview I recorded last year with Mary Ruth Mendel, who founded another wonderful foundation: Australia’s Literacy and Numeracy Foundation. Our conversation was about literacy in indigenous communities and how she successfully tackles the problem with the program she has developed.

Music this week will mostly be about music – making it, singing it and writing it. Mary Ruth’s interview is punctuated by music featuring the didjeridoo.

As always, I look forward to you company.
