Celebrating one of the world’s most ambitious public art initiatives

Created by British artist Michael Landy, this exhibition surveys the rich history of Kaldor Public Art Projects using artworks, archival materials and reconstructions of past projects. From Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s ‘Wrapped coast’ (1969) to Jeff Koons’ ‘Puppy’ (1995), Marina Abramovic’s ‘In residence’ (2015), Jonathan Jones’ ‘barrangal dyara (skin and bones)’ (2016) and numerous other projects, it revisits some of the most iconic large-scale artworks to have been presented in Australia.

Kaldor Public Art Projects launched in 1969 with the presentation of Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s ground-breaking ‘Wrapped coast – one million square feet, Little Bay, Sydney’ and has since presented over 30 public art projects across Australia. The first organisation of its type anywhere in the world, Kaldor Public Art Projects has helped redefine the boundaries for public art in the 21st century and has had a profound influence on the way that Australians have experienced contemporary art.

The Atomic Drop Slide at Sydney Olympic Park’s giant pop-up water park will have kids bouncing with anticipation these school holidays.

Splash n Fun is a series of inflatables slides, runways and swings that will provide unrivalled fun indoors at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre during the hot summer break.

And if that isn’t exciting enough, kids can also test their skills at Diving or Water Polo during a series of clinics at the Aquatic Centre, take part in the swimming programs, or just enjoy the ever-popular Splasher’s Water Playground.

If the family is more interested in some outdoor fun activities during the break, why not visit the Archery Centre and see if they can hit the bullseye, with kids as young as 7 years encouraged to take aim and experience the excitement. Or join in one of the many other programs available to keep kid’s minds and bodies active across Sydney Olympic Park this summer.

Sydney Olympic Park is the perfect place to keep kids entertained over the long summer break, with 50 fun and varied activities on offer, including skate and scooter camps, gymnastics, netball, cricket and soccer programs, to name just a few.

Sydney Olympic Park is central and easy to access, and there really is something for everyone. There are also more than 430 hectares of parkland and open space to explore, so families can keep coming back time and again to enjoy something different.

There is no excuse for kids to complain of boredom during the break – let them loose at Sydney Olympic Park and enjoy some stress-free family time.

Weekend and school holidays: a creative space for families

Make, mould, squash and stitch everyday materials into unexpected works of art.

Drop in to our explosive weekend family space and be inspired by the work of acclaimed British artist Cornelia Parker. Get hands-on and contribute to 2 collaborative artworks that draw on the artist’s fascination with cartoons, found objects and good old-fashioned handicraft.

We’ve extended the hours of our creative space over the school holidays beyond the weekend.

Explore at your own pace and stay for as long as you like! This program is designed for mini art-lovers aged 4 years+ and their grown-ups to play and learn together.

This event is presented in conjunction with the exhibition Cornelia Parker (8 November 2019 – 16 February 2020).

After 31 December, the space will return to normal operating hours. Open every weekend from 11am–3pm, excluding Saturday 25 December and Sunday 26 January.

In celebration of Disney’s cinema release of Frozen 2, The Grounds of Alexandria is transforming into an enchanting Frozen 2 experience.

We’ve been inspired by the movie and created The Enchanted Forest and The Crystal Lane, with photo opportunities at every corner. There are also lots of yummy Frozen 2 inspired treats for you to enjoy, so make sure you come and explore before it all melts away!

Lights of Christmas

Celebrating 10 years as Sydney's favourite free family Christmas event!

Lights of Christmas, presented by Paynter Dixon and created and produced by AGB Events, will return to St Mary’s Cathedral for its 10th year.

The light projection event will continue to showcase community choirs and performers from across Sydney nightly at 7.30pm. Delicious food and beverage options will once again be available to buy on-site or you can pack your own picnic.

To mark the 10th anniversary of Lights of Christmas, the show will feature a sound and light experience honouring St Mary’s Cathedral. It will be transformed in a way not seen before, tracing the cathedral’s beautiful details using both light and colour.

The show will return to the original story upon which the customs and traditions of Christmas are based. Retold through the ages, scenes will be presented as a series of dioramas represented by spectacular Renaissance artworks.

A selection of Madonna and Child artworks will continue, featuring some of the magnificent Renaissance period artworks owned by the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.

For the second year, Lights of Christmas has partnered with St Vincent’s Hospital to raise funds for one of Sydney’s oldest and most respected medical institutions. Lights of Christmas will provide a platform to support the 2019 fundraising project – mental health. Through innovative telehealth and online outreach programs, St Vincent’s Hospital’s mental health services provide people in rural and remote regions of NSW with access to essential specialist healthcare services that would otherwise not be available to them.
