Two Sicilies - Maz Dixon at the Bondi Pavilion

Two Sicilies explores the experience of early tourism in Anglo cultures.

A line can be drawn from the original Grand Tourists in Italy experiencing the thrill of the (repeated) discovery and excavation of a single temple in Pompeii, to the burial of Australian landscapes and cultures under European names and kitsch facsimiles of other cultures.

By comparing the experience of the exotic as excavation in one place and burial in another, Two Sicilies looks at the way tourism can be a form of colonialism, and pokes fun at some of the more elaborate fantasies and “authentic” experiences of the tourist.

Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach

When: Every day, 10am to 5pm
Tuesday 21 January to Sunday 2 February 2020
Wednesday 22 January 2020 from 10am to 5pm
