Review: This World Sydney Concert

This World Sydney Concert at John Painter Hall, Australian Institute of Music 8th February 2020

Reviewed by Chris Borton at Jammin’ Sunday

Thank you to Australian Institute of Music (AIM) and Sydney Improvised Music Association (SIMA) for an outstanding concert in a marvelous venue last Saturday.

A band of world class musicians introduced their new album release This World to an enthusiastic full house in a new venue at the AIM.

Mike Nock(p), Julien Wilson(sax), Jonathan Zwartz(b), and Hamish Stuart(d) introduced their own compositions and played in an inspired and inspiring performance. These individuals need no introduction to a jazz audience but as an ensemble they are new but play together like the oldest of partners.

The venue is a credit to AIM being both warm and intimate. The sight lines are excellent and the acoustics first class. I am sure the quality of the venue will attract many more fine performers such as these.

Public transport to this venue is easy, being a few steps from Central Station.

SIMA continues a long tradition of showcasing Jazz in Sydney with good venues and fine organisation. Well-priced tickets with a beverage included set the tone for a wonderful evening.

Congratulations to all concerned!

This fine ensemble is touring up and down the East Coast to introduce this fine new album. Watch for them in your local area. This World is available now on the LIONSHARE RECORDS label. Worth your attention!
