Arts Wednesday 26 August 2020

Presented by Bronwyn Rennex

This week on the show I speak to Pierre Arpin, Director and CEO of the Australian Centre for Photography (ACP).

Photographer David Moore was the driving force behind the formation of a national centre for photography back in the early 70’s. The first ACP gallery and workshop space was opened in 1974 in Paddington. It’s hard to believe it’s almost 50 years ago now. The medium of photography has changed so much since then and galleries have changed too, to keep pace with the evolution of the medium. We discuss the ACP’s program and vision now, at a time when so many millions of images are taken and shared every day.

The ACP has recently been granted additional space at Foley St which will be used for curatorial and education programs. I discuss with Pierre what’s planned for this new space and what’s in store for the rest of the year and beyond.

The music I’ve chosen for the show is a mix of songs about photos or photography plus some music from around the era the ACP first opened – including Stevie Wright’s trilogy ‘Evie’ released in 1974.

I hope you enjoy the show.
