Carriageworks is back with 2 Festivals and a Food Market

Carriageworks is open again

Like a phoenix from the ashes, Carriageworks has risen with a COVID safe program and food market. With the generosity of several philanthropic foundations, the arts and cultural hub is ready to thrill, shock and engage us once more. The Farmers Market was first to begin operating and two exciting festivals are set to go with a combination of virtual and limited audience programs.

Liveworks Festival of Experimental Art 2020 runs from 21-25 October.

We chat to choreographer and filmmaker, Sue Healy about her work Live Action Relay. With three dancers, a musician, a director and a drone, this high energy dance takes place in a disused quarry in Bombo. This work will be streamed in real time in 2 sessions on Friday 23 October. More details and tickets here.

Sydney Contemporary 2020 is on again (1-31 Oct). We talk to Fair Director, Barry Keldoulis and Perth-based artist, Tarryn Gill, who’s work Little Shadow (expanded polyethylene foam, hand stitched lycra, mirror) features in the exhibition.  The work reflects her background in sculpture, photography as well as costume and theatre design. She explores the space between the conscious and unconscious, with recurring themes of monsters and the macabre.

This year the contemporary art fair has been forced to reincarnate itself as a virtual gallery. With 450 works from over 300 artists, the website allows you to filter them down according to your tastes and needs.

Love Burns in rehearsal

Love Burns is a dark comedic opera created by Graeme Koehne and Louis Nowra in 1992. Now the Other Theatre is about to revive this hidden gem in a short season at East Sydney Community and Arts Centre, 34 Burton St, Darlinghurst.

Director, Eugene Lynch joins us to talk about how to conduct rehearsals under Covid restrictions. He chose this opera for its beautiful score and dark comedy. The story is based on a 1969 B-Movie The Honeymoon Killers,  and references anything from the Simpsons to David Bowie.

There are two performances on both Friday 23 and Saturday 24 October. Also the performance will be available oneline for 6 months. Tickets and more info here.

Monday 19 October 10.30-12.00.

Listen back at any time.
