Arts Wednesday 16 December 2020

Presented by Bronwyn Rennex

On today’s show I play a recording of an interview between Mark Mordue and Michaela Kalowski about Mark’s new book Boy on Fire: The Young Nick CaveIt’s a fabulous conversation covering a lot of ground; from music, love, death, friendship, the role of art in life and finding your way around (and out of) Wangaratta.

Mark Mordue is an Australian journalist, editor, writer and poet. He spent 10 years writing Boy on Fire, which is a poetic, profound & profane biography of the formative years of the dark prince of Rock & Roll, Nick Cave.

As well as appearing as an interviewer and facilitator for writers’ and ideas festivals, Michaela Kalowski is a producer, presenter and researcher for ABC radio. The interview was recorded during a Zoom event for Better Read Bookshop in Newtown.

The music today? Nick Cave, of course, in various incarnations and with a range of collaborators. I also throw in a few artists who inspired the young Nick including the Fabulous Alex Harvey and Alice Cooper.

Thanks for listening. I hope you enjoy the show.
