Cat interviews koala researcher and geneticist, Dr Katrin Hohweiler, about her work on population genetics of the popular Australian animal. On the east coast of Australia the population has been reduced by 80 % since the 1980s. One of the main reasons is habitat loss. Koalas have more and more only small pockets of gum forest left and can’t move freely between them unless they risk being hit by a car or mauled by dogs. Katrin partners up with koala detection dogs to find her study animals.
