Eastside’s Album for Feburary 2011
drip•ping (ˈdrɪpɪŋ) n.
1. the act of anything that drips.
2. fat exuded from meat in cooking.
3. music. a form of improvisational interaction in which the relationship of parts is analogous to the sound of water dripping.
The DRIP HARDS are CARL DEWHURST – GUITAR, CAMERON UNDY – BASS and EVAN MANNELL – DRUMS and together they explore the elasticity of music on their debut CD “This Is Dripping“. Since realising the concept of Dripping in early 2009 The Drip Hards have developed an interactive approach that is as unique as it is unusual.
“The brainchild of superb guitarist Carl Dewhurst, this album is sometimes a rollicking, jolting rollercoaster ride, sometimes a missing two stroke engine using high octane fuel and at other times quirky minimalism .
Whether intentional or not, the flexible rhythmic influence of Ornette Coleman’s harmolodics is apparent. Both the electric guitar and Cameron Undy’s electric bass purposely double shunt against the weight of Evan Mannell’s drums. If questioning the level of creativity, I would suggest this is gushing rather than dripping and may be one of the most influential local releases in recent times.” Peter Wockner
“two parts charm to one part subversion” John Shand, SMH 2010
