Happy to Hongi with Hawaiians in Aotearoa
Aotearoa, land of the long white cloud – home to the Maori – a real slice of heaven like Dave Dobbyn sung…
Come along on a musical journey, hanging with the Hawaiians from not-for-profit group Mana Maoli Collective as the medley of musicians, dancers and educators explore the culture and customs of their Maori cousins.
Intrepid traveler and, just quietly, groupie; Meagan Fitton hungout with the group, on tour in Aotearoa. There was many a cultural exchange – not just traditional, through taking part in a pōwiri, a hongi or kappa haka, but through jam sessions and plain old chilling, island style.
Tune into Armchair Traveller on Eastside FM 89.7 Wednesday, March 16,
11.30am – noon (Sydney Eastern Standard Time).
