Telling our tales

Every year over 4,000 artists come through Eastside’s portals, as presenters, guests, or volunteers.  Among them are actors, singers, comedians, voice over experts, musicians and journalists. Phew! Not to mention sound engineers and designers, producers, and directors!

Some of these artists are now lending their talents to Eastside Radio as we produce short radio plays for Sonic Tales. Submissions have been answered by many writers providing us with high quality scripts. Experienced actors and directors have come to the party with the support of industry-respected sound designers

The radio plays reflect Australian society, our local community and give a new group of radio play enthusiast a chance to further explore and revive this form of entertainment.

And all of this brilliant work will be unveiled to the Eastside community on Monday 23 May...

One of the first radio plays to air will be The Pulpit Rock – a black comedy – written by Gina Schein who’s previous radio plays have been aired on ABC Radio. The Pulpit Rock will be narrated by Elaine Hudson who performed last year for Sydney Theatre Company and recently on the ABC TV program, Rake.

We will also air a double bill of comedies written by Donna Abela – 2010 winner of the Augie Prize. another excellent comedy with a twist on Freud written by Noelle Janaczewska and a series by Kev Golsby .. one of the great voices on Australian radio for many years!

You can see why we’re excited…

Tune in on Monday 23 May (Arts Monday) for the official launch of Sonic Tales –  this newly created venture that captures the nostalgia of old time radio plays and brings it into the 21st century.

And dont forget, we’re still on the look out for scripts, no longer than 20 minutes.

Get creative, controversial, or a little weird,… and remember we’re telling a story with sound. Submit your entries to: sonictales@eastsidefm.org or call 02 9331 3000 for more information.
