Arts Wednesday 11 May 2011

Craig Ruddy, David Gulpilil - two worlds

Heads Up! Join me, Jane Raffan, for a program concentrating on portraiture, or more specifically, the Archibald Portrait Prize.

Today I’ll be interviewing Sheona White, Head of Public Programs at the Art Gallery of New South Wales. We’ll be chatting about the history of the prize, which is now in its 90th year. And of course, the interview coincides with the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman exhibitions currently showing at the AGNSW.

We’ll cover some of the interesting highlights of the Archibald’s history, including the legal challenges raised against three of the winning entries, in the 1940s, the 1970s and in 2004.

And the music will follow cue. Over the two hours we’ll be listening to jazz takes on portraits, including abstract portrait soundscapes, and tracks painting musical portraits of people.

I’ll be presenting Arts Wednesday over the next 4 weeks while Sylvia Rosenblum is away, and I look forward to your company!
