Eastside Radio presents Global Rhythms 2010

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Moment is Global Rhythms by Various Artists

Following on from the success of their debut album Live at the Reservoir, Eastside Radio is proud to present their second release Global Rhythms. This album was recorded live on Saturday April 17 2010 at Robertson Park, Watsons Bay as part of the inaugural world music festival hosted by this unique community radio station.

First up on the recording is three songs from Masha’s Legacy, founded by husband and wife team – Stuart and Sarit Vandegraaff. Theirs is a musical collaboration of Western and Middle Eastern musicians and dancers. The original compositions draw on Turkish, Egyptian, Lebanese and Eastern European musical traditions to create a unique style of global music beautifully reflected in the album opener Zeina.

Following on are the toe tapping sounds of the catholics warmly led by internationally renowned bass player Lloyd Swanton and featuring the cream of Australia’s jazz musicians such as Hamish Stuart on drums, Fabian Hevia on percussion and Carl Dewhurst on guitar, among others. Of their selected three songs, Ah-Kah-Hah and Wild Life are composed by Swanton himself while the third song, Salaam is a grooving rendition of Australian jazz legend Bernie McGann’s original.

Finishing off this rare live recording are the famous Monsieur Camembert and his traveling troupe of gypsy jazz maestros including Yaron Hallis, Julian Curwin and Matthew Ottignon to name a few. It’s a mixture of traditional and rearranged well known contemporaries like Leonard Cohen, with each song building towards their roaring finales of drunken abandon and collective chorus.

A very special thanks is owed to Ben Feggans as well as Limestone Studios and Sonamax Mastering for their efforts in helping Eastside Radio get this second album off the ground. Be sure to purchase your copy today as it is a limited pressing of only 300 and will not be repeated.
