Check out what fresh new albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Daniel Gassin Sextet – Daniel Gassin Sextet

The debut and self titled album from the Daniel Gassin Sextet. This is Daniel Gassin’s third album in all forms and see’s the Aussie/French pianist leave behind the intimate trio format and create a light ensemble sound with his sextet. An engaging album with modern and original compositions from one of Australia’s finest pianists.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘San Jose’

‘What You Get is What You Get’

‘New Song’

Takadimi – New Common Sense

New Common Sense is the debut album from Sydney locals Takadimi. The quintet have created a Jazz/Folk sound with elements of Irish, Gypsy, Latin and Afro vibes – an eclectic mix that somehow pays off magnificently! An independent release from recent graduates, this album embodies the notion of why we should be excited about the future of Australian Jazz music. Awesome.

‘Little Cashews’

‘Therese’

‘Leaves to Fall’

‘Into The Night’

Independent Track of the Week

The Independent track of the week was ‘History’s Door’ by Husky, who recently announced their signing to Liberation Music.

Sunbeam Insulin is Simon Hill’s first solo album under the Beta Hector guise, however his Baby Charles roots are still apparent. The album features a few tracks with long time collaborator Dionne Charles and is superbly produced with an Old School Funk feel combined with awesome crashing drums and a blurring electro synth.

‘Creepin” (Insulin Version)

‘Sleepwalking’

And today’s final track on The New Thing was a little electronic ambient gem that is available for free download on the Cut label. The track was ‘Festival’ by Great Skies on the Summer Moments EP and can be downloaded here https://cutmusic.org/releases/cut005.php
