ARTS WEDNESDAY 17 AUGUST 2011
This week Sandy Edwards makes a welcome return to Arts Wednesday at 10:40 am. This time she is wearing her ARTHERE hat and has added mentoring of young photographers to what the agency does and I’m sure it will be interesting to find out what this involves.
At 11:00 am, I’ll be playing an interview with Hanifa Deen I recorded last week when Hanifa was in Sydney promoting her book as part of her author’s tour of Australia. The book, Ali Abdul vs The King records the stories of Muslim men in Australia during the days of the White Australia Policy. It is a gripping, if somewhat sad read and she is an absolutely charming woman I know you will enjoy meeting.
The first Muslim men to arrive in Australia in the 1860s were the cameleers and I actually have a CODA track about camels, so it seemed like music about animals would be the way to go!
As always, I look forward to your company.
