The New Thing 22/08/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing Today and which tracks were played!

Adrian Cunningham – Walkabout

Sydney’s very own Jazz fiend Adrian Cunningham has composed a smooth, playful and cohesive sound on Walkabout. Having spent much of his career abroad, Adrian has taken inspiration from his travels and embodied it into his music on this album.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Chasing the Horizon (For Coogee)’

‘Oasis (For Central Park)’

‘Baby Please Don’t Go (For New Orleans)’

Elixir feat. Katie Noonan – First Seed Ripening

Eight years since their self-titled debut Elixir are back alongside Katie Noonan with First Seed Ripening. Sure to ruffle a few Jazzheads feathers out there as the album sways from jazz to folk, classical and even pop music, there is no doubt however in any of these chaps talents. Noonan’s vocals are as stunning and polished as ever and she is provided with soulful lyrics from poet Thomas Shapcott, whilst Elixir’s instrumentation is superb.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Stuff of Myths’

‘Nocturne’

‘Peirrot’

‘My Old Man’

Independent Track of the Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘Science’ from Perth outfit Boom! Bap! Pow!

The Ellis Collective – Means What It Means

Award winning band The Ellis Collective offer up an unflinchingly honest and gruff debut album with Means What It Means. Lead singer Matty Ellis’ raw and rugged vocals with a strong Aussie twang combined with the band’s acoustic guitar, violins and cello create rough and ready but emotive and ironically beautiful music.

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘1997’

‘Walls’

‘Not That Kind’

Various Artists – Americana Rock Your Soul Blue Eyed Soul and Sounds from the Land of the Free

An awesome compilation of soul, funk, disco, and soft rock music, this is the perfect album to get down to. Classic, fun cool vibes.

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘I’ve Got the Feelin’ – James Walsh Gypsy Band

‘Love One Another’ – Mike Lundy

‘Four in the Morning (Goodking Edit)’ – Ian Wilson

‘I Love Music’ – Babadu

And the final track on The New Thing Today was Blu Mar Ten’s ‘Five Summers’.

Tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
