The New Thing 12/09/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Cameron Earl Quartet – Run Run

The debut album from the Cameron Earl Quartet took six years to create. In that time period Cameron was announced as a finalist for the 2010 James Morrison Brass Prize at the Melbourne International Brass Festival. Beautifully recorded, a quirky and solid debut.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Run Run’

‘People Say’

‘You’re A Good Person You Know’

Syl Johnson – The Best Of Syl Johnson

A true pioneer and leader of the rhythm & blues world, Syl Johnson is a legend. This album represents his greatest hits from the last 60 years. Syl recently completed his tour of Australia and was backed by Aussie funk band The Bamboos who Syl amusingly described as some ‘bad motherf**kers’. Legend.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Is It Because I’m Black’

‘I Hear The Love Chimes’

‘We Did It’

‘Take Me To The River’

‘(She’s So fine) I Just Gotta Make Her Mine’

Independent Track Of The Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘Outside’ by Israel Cannan from his recently released debut album Walk.

Nouvelle Vague – The Singers

The French Nouvelle Vague collective consists of singers from around the world singing in the sweet sunset Nouvelle Vague Style – very similar to Bossa Nova. An album for those soon come summer evenings. Pretty sexy too.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘My Girl’ by Nouvelle Vague & Sophie Delila

‘Fade Out Lines’ by Phoebe Killdeer and The Short Straws

‘Galaxy’ by Jenia Lubich

‘Perfume E Caricias’ by Eloisia Da Silva & Meeco

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Mugwump’ by Song Fwaa from the album Ligeti’s Goat

Fatoumata Diawara – Fatou

A beautiful debut album from the lovely Malian singer song writer. Fatou is emotive and descriptive as Fatoumata’s beautiful voice and instrumentation sweetly transport you to an exciting African folk world. A true must have this one, its out this Friday 16th September on World Circuit Records.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Willie’

‘Makoun Oumou’

‘Mousso’

And today’s final track on the new thing was ‘ From A Distance’ from the recently release The Cold In You EP by one of my favorite ambient dubstep producers – Phaeleh.

Be Sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
