The New Thing 03/10/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Origami – The Blues Of Joy

Adam Simmons, Howard Cairns and Anthony Baker have combined forces to form the Origami Trio. The reason for their name is that they view their music in a similar way to the Japanese art, starting from a simple beginning like a sheet of paper to create pieces of great complexity and beauty. An ethereal and spaced new era jazz album, very exciting.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Chimera’

‘Cheers Big Ears’

‘Morse Code’

Lee McAllistair – Spellbound

Much traveled Sydney vocalist Lee McAllistair has independently released a beautiful album of jazz, swing and bossa nova. With sweet vocals and charming lyrics, its a special first release from the Sydneysider.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Borneo’

‘The Odd Couple’

‘Flowers In Your Dressing Room’

Independent Track Of The Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘The Price On My Head’ by Tasmanian but now London based country folk singer songwriter Jay Fraser.

Josh Rawiri – Molecular Teleportation

The second album from blues and roots singer songwriter Josh Rawiri is a stirring follow up to his debut. Out this Friday 7th October, you can catch him at his album launch this Saturday 8th October at the Camelot Lounge in Marrickville.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Feel Good’

‘Molecular Teleportation’

‘Beach Honey’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Kanou’ by Fatoumata Diawara and her album Fatou.

Booker T. Jones – The Road From Memphis

The man is pretty much the definition of soul funk. After more than 50 years in the game, this is his fourth album, and it aint getting any less groovy! Catch him this Thursday 6th October at the Metro.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Representing Memphis’

‘Progress’

‘Harlem House’

‘Down In Memphis’

And today’s final track on The New Thing was ‘Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion’ Oliver Tank. Still my favourite track of the moment, I seriously cannot get enough of it!

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
