The Rafael Jerjen Concept – Chrysanthemum

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Chrysanthemum by The Rafael Jerjen Concept.

Originally from Switzerland but now based in Canberra, Rafael only graduated at the end of last year and is already establishing himself as a potential heavyweight of the Australian Jazz scene.

A bass player himself, Rafael studied under the watchful eye of renowned Los Angles bassist Eric Ajaye and he seems to have absorbed many of his abilities. Chrysanthemum is the young man’s second LP release, in 2009 he released his debut entitled Change.

Chrysanthemum features an all star Australian Jazz line up, with Sandy Evans, James Greening, Paul Dal Broi, Mark Sutton and Rafael himself making up ‘The Concept’. The result is a diverse and profound album featuring all original compositions inspired by Jazz greats of the likes of Ahmad Jamal, Pat Metheny and Chick Corea. Chrysanthemum represents the fruits of an exciting Jazz future for Rafael Jerjen.

Chrysanthemum is an independent release by Rafael Jerjen. For more information go to his website at www.rafaeljerjen.com.au

Stay closely tuned to Eastside as we will be giving away a copy of the album to a listener every day this week!
