The New Thing 24/10/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Jacques Loussier Trio – Schumann Kinderszenen

Experienced french pianist has interpreted Schumann’s Kinderszenen in an acoustic jazz style. Covering classical work and turning it into a jazz style is often controversial amongst purists, however Loussier pulls it off with style.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Wichtige Begebenheit’

‘Haschemann’

‘Von Fremden Landern und Menschen’

‘Bittendes Kind’

‘Ritter Vom Steckenpferd’

The Idea Of North – Extraordinary Tale

In 2010 The Idea of North won an ARIA Best Jazz Album Award for their collabartion with James Morrison. 2011 sees the acapella quartet return to their roots and use no instruments in Extraordinary Tale. Chirpy and fun, look out for the great bassline vocals from Andrew Piper, reminiscent of Bobby Mcferrin.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Armando’s Rhumba’

‘La Belle Dame Sans Regrets’

‘Don’t Wait Too Long’

‘It Don’t Mean A Thing (If It Ain’t Got That Swing)’

‘(Sweet Sweet Baby) Since You’ve Been Gone’

Independent Track Of The Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘Cerberus’ by local act Bon Chat, Bon Rat. You can download the single for free here:

Cave – Neverendless

An album for those who miss the groovey psychadelic haze day festivals like Woodstock or Glastonbury, Neverendless fits perfectly into that bill. 60’s and 70’s psychadelic art rock with hints of funk. Spacey.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Adam Roberts’

‘OJ’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Two Of A Kind – Part 2’ by The Rafael Jerjen Concept.

Husky – Forever So

The debut from the Newcastle folksters is a real peach. After the success of their single ‘History’s Door’, the album carries on with a similar feel and is a beautiful folkie/idie/pop tonic.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Tidal Wave’

‘Farewell (In 3 Parts)’

‘Don’t Tell Your Mother’

‘History’s Door’

And today’s final track on The New Thing was a genuine party banger! Melbourne based glitch hop producer Opiuo has put out this Ray Charles bootleg of ‘Good Thymes’. Hip Hop turntablists take note, this is a must have. And you can download it for free from Opiuo’s website here!
