The New Thing 31/10/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Keith Jarrett – Rio

Recorded in Rio de Janeiro in April this year, the latest Keith Jarrett album continues to live up to the classical and jazz pianist’s splendid reputation. A jazz stream of consciousness.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Rio Part VI’

‘Rio Part XI’

‘Rio Part III’

Pen Island – Just Blowing

Aussies Gerard Masters, Miles Thomas and Brett Hirst make up the eccentric jazz trio Pen Island. Known to perform in superhero outfits on stage, the trio definitely bring fun and a bit of looniness to the jazz world, however their sound is spot on.

Tracks played on the New Thing:

‘Dolphin Dance’

‘Sophisticated Lady’

‘Good Habits’

‘Gloria’s Whole II’

Independent Track Of The Week

Today’s independent track of the week was ‘Pilgrimage’ by Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors. Their debut album is set to drop early next year.

Putumayo Presents Latin Beat

Another compilation by the Putumayo World Music label, this time focusing on world Latin tunes with a fun party twist. Bands from Cuba to Afghanistan are featured.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘La Cumbia Lounge’ by Charanga Cakewalk (USA)

‘Del Ray’ by Sola Rosa (New Zealand)

‘Echale Guarapo’ by Edesio Feat. Adriano Rodriguez (Cuba)

‘Asi Sin Querer’ by Digitano

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Morse Code’ by Origami.

Meem – Monsters Don’t Sleep Ok!

An awesome return from the Aussie funkster, its been 3 years since Meem put anything out, thank goodness he’s back! He continues to fuse pretty much every genre under the sun, soul, funk, hip hop, dub, world and disco are all featured. A must have this album has 200 limited edition copies with very impressive artwork and a cut out perspex monster. How cool is that!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘C’mon Feet’ (With The Boom Band Krewe)

‘(It Was) Hard Times’

‘Funky Monsters On The Train Way Back Down Home’

‘The Blindman That Scratched Monsters’

And today’s final track on the New Thing was from my current favourite record label Yes Please Records. It was The Townhouses’ remix of ‘Dream Within The Sun’ by Guerre. A Caribbean themed beauty! Download it for free here:
