Community Billboard: November 7 – 13

The Rocks Village Bizarre

Every Friday night in November and December, the cobblestone streets of The Rocks precinct will become the stage for poetry slams, live music, cabaret and burlesque performances, hula-hooping and artist talks.

At the bizarre, you’ll also stumble upon pop-up shops, artist tours, a silent disco and loads of other quirky surprises.

Study Break Films

Take a break from study with a program of fun films throughout the HSC period. From Halloween horror and 60’s sci-fi to action adventure and comedy classics, it’s a great way to relax during HSC.

Woollahra Festival of Arts and Ideas

Australia’s premier community-based ideas and performance festival, Woollahra Festival of Arts and Ideas, will be held for the second time on 10-13 November with a spectacular line-up of more than 165 speakers and artists in and around Queen Street, Woollahra.

Woollahra Festival combines an ideas program that tackles some of the hot topics of the day and a free performance program of comedy, performance, music and other quirky artistic invention. For all of Sunday 13 November, two blocks of Queen Street will be transformed into a rolling Village Green for the day. The Green will be a wonderful outdoor space for performing artists – acrobats, strolling players and musicians, a fabulous kids carnival, and an evening community dinner under the stars, the Village Green will be a magical space for young and old.
The festival will open on Thursday night 10 November with a Conversation Café community discussion and close on Sunday night 13 November with the ‘Village Dinner OnThe Green’ – a catered feast for 200 people with food by Damien Pignolet and Hugh Wennerbom. Monica Trapaga and The Lonesome Train will provide the entertainment.

Glebe Youth Service Film and Fun Night

Keiran Kevans the GYS coordinator says ‘It’s an event that showcases the creative talents and achievements of local young people. It a night where we celebrate and acknowledge the creative talents of our youth and the positive contribution they make to our society. Watching the short films and listening to their music on a balmy spring night with a steak sandwich in one hand and a soft drink in the other. What’s not to like?’ People of all ages and diverse backgrounds are welcome, it may just open a few minds and warm some hearts. The night includes a variety of activities including 3 on 3 basketball games, BBQ, lucky door prizes and a screening of the young people’s films.
