The New Thing 21/11/11 Track List & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

The James Valentine Quartet – The Power & The Passion

James Valentine has taken a whole host of classic Australian pop songs and interpreted them in a laid back cool jazz style. A simple album with a traditional sound.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘The Power & The Passion’

‘Friday On My Mind’

‘Pleasure & Pain’

‘The Real Thing’

McCormack & Yarde Duo – Places & Other Spaces

Two of the UK’s finest jazz musicians who have been at the forefront of the scene for the last 10 years have recently put out their second album. The Saxophone and piano duet share an incredibly close rapport and it’s difficult to tell improvisation from composition on the album, testament to their quality.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Antibes’

‘Flowers For Japan’

‘D-Town’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Unknowness I’ by Peter Knight from the album Fish Boast Of Fishing.

Oliver Tank – Dreams

I have been excited about this release for some time, and to be frank it’s nothing short of a stunning debut release. Oliver Tank has an extremely exciting career ahead with his beautifully intricate, ambient, classical, electronica styled music. This is a must have.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Up All Night’

‘Last Night I Heard Everything In Slow Motion’

‘Embrace’ (Feat. Fawn Myers)

‘The Last Time’

Independent Track of The Week

‘Waiting’ by Hayley Couper, the alt country rock singer from Tasmania, now based in Melbourne.

Van Walker – Underneath The Radar 2008 – 2010

A selection of tracks from the singer’s last 5 albums. Known as one of Melbourne’s best kept secrets, his sound is country roots with a hint of blues.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Wildgrass’

‘Prisoner’s Blues’

And today’s final track on the New Thing was from a band still in High School! The Cactus channel serve up groovy tracks like ‘The Dap’ for fun. A band to keep an eye on!

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
