FOREVER FRENCH: Jane Birkin Sings Serge Gainsbourg
She is British but she is a French icon. Since 1969, an “erotic year” according to her first duet with Serge Gainsbourg, Jane Birkin is charming France with her delicious accent and her incomparable way to sing some of the most beautiful songs of her former partner. She will be in Australia in March 2012.
Actor, singer, activist and darling of the French avant garde Jane Birkin will perform at City Recital Hall Angel Place for one night only, the 16th of March, during her Australian tour in March 2012.
In a powerful homage to her partner and mentor Serge Gainsbourg, she presents a special concert of Gainsbourg’s music to mark 20 years since his death. For more than a decade Jane Birkin was muse to the legendary French singer, songwriter and enfant terrible Gainsbourg. Together they produced six albums and continued to collaborate professionally long after their relationship ended in 1980.
Birkin will perform with a group comprising some of Japan’s finest musicians including pianist and composer Nobuyuki Nakajima known for both his masterful piano and his work arranging ensembles, jazz-influenced drummer Tsuotmu Kurihara, violinist Asuka Maret, and brass player Shuishiro Sakaguchi.
The Forever French team is already looking forward to listening to her. We also hope she will join us on the show. We’ll keep you posted.
