Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Charles Earland – Scorched, Seared & Smokin’: The Best of “The Mighty Burner”

Charles Earland tragically passed away in 1999 and performed with many of the greats. His grooving jazz saxophone and organ solos earned him the name ‘The Mighty Burner’ and he spent most of his career releasing on High Note Records. The triple CD compendium is a celebration of his releases out now on High Note Records.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘The Count Is In The House’

‘One Eyed Man’

‘Honky Tonk’

‘Stomp’

Angie Hubbard – …Some Kind Of Daydream

Sydney jazz vocalist Angie Hubbard has teamed up with Dave Hibbard, Gerard Masters, Jonathan Zwartz and Richard Maegraith to independently release her debut album of sweet sounding covers of famous jazz tracks. A smooth introduction from the Sydneysider.

Portico Quartet – Portico Quartet

The third album from the east London genre fusers is addictive medicinal ambient pleasure. A Jazz soul is fused with electronica, dance, classical and ambient sounds that create a special and unusual soundscape. Highly recommended.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Spinner’

‘Ruins’

‘City Of Glass’

And today’s final track was ‘I Just Want To Make Love To You’ by Etta James who passed away earlier this weekend. Her voice will be truly missed.
