Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Steve Davis – Steve Davis

Steve Davis only started singing when he was 18 while he was halfway through his plumbing apprenticeship, and the young man has now released his debut EP after working with James Morrison. A short selection of smooth easy listening covers, Steve could be a real talent in the future.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Everything Must Change’

‘In The Wee Small Hours’

‘Eleanor Rigby’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Bunny Boy’ by Joel Forrester & Phillip Johnston from the album Live at The Hillside Club.

Benjamin Hauptmann – Benjamin Hauptmann

Jazz guitarist Ben Hauptmann has performed with a wide variety of artists including The Alcohotlicks, Bertie Blackman and Katie Noonan & The Captains. These different styled artists have influenced his jazz sound on his self titled album, with hints of psychadaelia, folk, rock and dub all apparent on the LP.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Nadia’s Tune’

‘Pretty Melody’

‘Forest Street’

‘Dagobert’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Wicked Man Dub’ by Perth outfit The Weapon is Sound.

The Green – Ways & Means

The Hawaiian based reggae band have followed up their successful debut with Ways & Means. Released under the watchful eyes of the Easy Star All Stars on their Easy Star record label, expect some cool reggae dub vibes Hawaiian style.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Keep On’

‘Transparent People’

‘Ways & Means’

Marconi Union – Beautifully Falling Apart (Ambient Transmissions Volume 1)

Manchester based band Marconi Union have been producing stunningly beautiful minimalistic ambience for over a decade now. Where some of their previous albums have more of a post rock feel, Beautifully Falling Apart is more instrumental. Perfect stress relief music.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Breathing Retake’

‘Losing The Light’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
