Sunshine Brothers – Red Alert

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Red Alert by The Sunshine Brothers.

The Perth based band have performed alongside the likes of The Soul Jazz Sound System, Salmonella Dub and Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings and in the process have crafted their own niche sound of dub and reggae music with elements of ska and roots.

The band say they were brought together by a love of reggae, the beach, booze, high cholesterol and a laugh. Thus it is no surprise that their vibe is extremely chilled and relaxed, capturing the essence of an Australian summer by the beach. Reggae horns with subtle surf kicks give their dub and reggae sound a smooth and uplifting feel.

Red Alert is The Sunshine Brother’s third album and the ethos of this LP has not strayed far from their previous releases lying fundamentally in sunshine and the easy life. Recorded in the sunny mountains near Madrid in Spain, the Spanish philosophy of ‘Mañana Mañana’ no doubt played an influence on their vibe as Red Alert’s slow grooves and laid back flow make it the perfect soundtrack to anyone’s Summer. Whilst the sound may not be deep, it is undoubtedly honest and feel good music.

Red Alert is a release by Soul Highway and Inertia Music. For more information go to www.soulhighway.com.au
