Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Mike Nock Trio Plus – Hear And Know

One of the most influential jazz musicians in Australia, Mike Nock and his trio plus two (James Waples; drums, Ben Waples; double bass, Karl Laskowski; tenor saxophone, Ken Allars; trumpet) is releasing this smooth set of jazz numbers this Friday 17th February. For fans of Australian Jazz music this is a must.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘If Truth Be Known’

‘Komodo Dragon’

‘Colours’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Spinner’ by Portico Quartet from the album Portico Quartet.

Tord Gustavsen Quartet – The Well

One of the finest Jazz pianists and composers in the world, Tord Gustavsen perhaps doesn’t receive the credit that he deserves. This album on ECM is as pristine and smooth as ever further enhancing his reputation.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Suite’

‘On Every Corner’

‘The Well’

The Perch Creek Family Jug Band – Tall Tales

An extremely quirky, chirpy and fun little number, The Perch Creek Family Jug Band blend country with folk, bluegrass and old style django jazz. Banjos, washboards, jugs, double-bass, harmonicas, saws, trombones, melodicas, ukeleles and a kazoo are all featured on the album. What a selection!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Way Down Gone’

‘Minnie The Moocher’

‘How Did The Young Man Lose His Leg?’

‘How Long Blues’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Inertia’ by Ben and Belinda. A duo that have only recently started to put songs together, Belinda’s voice is beautiful!

Nano Stern – Las Torres De Sal

Nano Stern is said to be at the forefront of a new wave of Chilean Folk singers. A rebellious artist who’s tracks range from mellow story telling numbers to more guitar fueled Hendrix styled riffs, he is coming back to Sydney on the 8th March to perform at the Camelot Lounge.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Decimas A La Viola’

‘Felicidad’

‘Voy Volando’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
