Bottleneck – Diversions

Bottleneck were only formed last year by double bassist David Phillips who performs with the Adelaide Symphony Orchestra. Joined by three of his longtime friends and inspired by jazz recordings of the early Blue Note era, Diversions is a collection of groovy original jazz compositions with a blues twang.

Madeleine Paige – Life Raft

Madeleine Paige is a Brisbane based singer song-writer and Life Raft is her debut album. She has previously lent her voice to a few indie songstresses including Kate Miller-Heidke, Megan Washington and Emma Louise and has previously released two EPs with a folk inspired sound. Life Raft is Madeleine’s debut into the Jazz world and features a combination of original compositions and sweet covers. Look out particularly for her rendition of Massive Attack’s ‘Teardrop’.

The Hushes – Cold River Blues

The Hushes are Emily Davis, Ben Timbers, Cal Williams Jr and Kory Horwood. Hailing from Adelaide they play smoky bluegrass folk music. Emily’s voice is rich and stunning and is beautifully matched by high quality instrumentation.

The Toure-Raichel Collective – The Tel Aviv Sessions

The Toure-Raichel Collective is a collaboration between Vieux Farka Toure of Mali and Idan Raichel from Israel. After meeting by chance at a German airport, the two formed a friendship and went on to produce this stunning album that draws on both Malian and Israeli influences. Featuring startling beautiful instrumentation, this is a masterpiece in the fusion of culture and genres.
