A TWIST OF COOL – thanks!!

A little bit of history of the show:

On Wed 7 April, 2010, Peter March and I began presenting A TWIST OF COOL from 12noon-2pm weekly on Eastside Radio.
Our broadcasts included a mix of vocal & instrumental jazz, soul, blues, Latin and world music.  We also interviewed  a range of local, national and international artists who brought with them their fabulous music for us to play, and often provided us with tickets to their shows and CDs to give away to our supporters.

On Sat 1 October 2011, we moved from Wednesday to Saturday 2-4pm, which allowed more listeners to tune in. Our audience was not just in Australia but around the world – listening to our live stream, and often commenting on artists or songs via our A Twist Of Cool facebook page.

During the Eastside Radiothons, we enroled many new supporters and sponsors to join Eastside and we trust they are enjoying the experience.  Many thanks to the wonderful sponsors who provided goods & services including Margaret from Beach Lodge in NZ who supplied the major prize for the 2011 “12-Days of Xmas” promotion.

We are grateful and thankful to the following  who’ve appeared on A TWIST OF COOL (in random order): Overseas Artists  Cecelia Noel (USA), ), Imelda May (Ireland), Anthony David (USA),  Lulo Reinhardt (Germany), Roy Ayers (USA), Carl Orr (UK), Eva Ayllon (Brasil), Shuffle Demons (Canada),  Eugene “Hideaway” Bridges (USA), Warren Vache (USA),  Derek Trucks/Susan Tedeski (USA),  Bill Elder from Charles Walker feat. The Dynamites (USA), Naturally 7 (USA), Dan Storper – CEO and founder of Putumayo World music record label,  Jonathan Butler (South Africa) plus from Australia Arne Hanna – guitarist, Martinez Trio, Kere Buchanan – drummer, Tom Ferris – guitarist, Brian Lizotte – venue owner, Craig Calhoun – bassist, Bridie King – blues writer/arranger/keyboards, Judy Campbell (Mosaic), Mark Costa – bass, Sam McNally (ex Stylus) – keyboards, Steve Clisby – vocalist, keyboards etc., Lew Palatis (Hardware Gallery), Sean McKenzie – keyboards, Andrea Marr (Melb) – blues & soul singer, Dave Halls – keys, Paula Baxter – vocalist, James Loughnan – JazzGroove Association, Peter Morgan (Bump City) – vocalist, Jason Bruer – saxophonist, Jo Elms – vocalist & guitarist, Christopher Waterhouse (Curator, Sydney Theatre Company), Rick Price – vocalist, Bruce Mathiske – guitarist, Joe Robinson – blues guitarist, SNEZ – vocalist, Tim Rollinson – guitarist… and if I’ve missed anyone, my apology.

Many thanks also to Kat, Tony and the rest of the volunteers who run the admin side of the radio station, including the overseas interns who provide fantastic support, and to the other presenters we have befriended in our time at Eastside.  There are many shows we love to listen to, and it’s been a pleasure and an honour to be  a part of the roster of Eastside Radio presenters.

Also, a huge thankyou to ALL the amazing musicians and artists we’ve played over these past years, because without your music we would not have a show.  We loved compiling our “Top 20 Best of” special shows that we presented at the end of each year, and the artists included represent the cream of Australian and international performers.  While you keep producing the good grooves, we’ll keep playing them!!

We’d also like to acknowledge and thank the venue owners, managers and booking agents who support and present such a diverse range of live music in Sydney.  We will continue to support excellent venues such as Lizottes, Blue Beat, The Basement, Notes Live, the Enmore Theatre, The State Theatre, The Factory Theatre, The Opera Bar, Venue 505, The Macquarie Hotel, The Vanguard, and the many others providing great entertainment for live music lovers.

So, from Peter & me, thanks to YOU our listeners and supporters, and we hope to see you at a live music gig somewhere around Sydney.  Please dont be afraid to come and say hello, as we love to meet our listeners.
