The New Thing 09/04/12 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Fran Swinn Trio – Every Dog

The independently released and produced album by the Fran Swann Trio has been around for a little while now but seemed to slip under the radar slightly. Featuring Fran Swinn on guitar, Tamara Murphy o double bass and Ben Hedry on drums, the album is a smooth concoction of guitar jazz and gentle rock with nice melodies that draw you in.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘E Is For Everything’

‘Hale Storm’

‘Alien To Me’

Galaxstare – A Time, Times And Half A Time

Galaxstar is the latest release on the great Jazzhead label and features Kristin Berardi on vocals, Gary Daley on piano, Joathan Zwartz on double bass, Tim Firth on drums and Richard Maegraith on tenor sax and bass clarinet. A Sydney all star Jazz cast, this is one of the finest Jazz releases to come out of Sydney for some time.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘The Journey’

‘Job’s Deliverer’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Cold River Blues’ by The Hushes from the album Cold River Blues.

Dr. John – Locked Down

Locked Down is the new album from this veteran of the scene, and one thing for certain is that Dr. John hasn’t lost any of his wackyness over the years. Produced by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, Locked Down is a fantastic throwback to the 60’s fusing rock n’ roll, blues, groove and funk music. Sounds that would sound great at Woodstock.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Locked Down’

‘Revolution’

‘Kingdom of Izzness’

‘Big Shot’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Ding Dong’ by The Fabergettes from their debut EP The Fabergettes.

The Bombay Royale – You Me Bullets Love

The Bombay Royale are a 9 piece masked band from Melbourne that play an eclectic blend of Bollywood, funk, rock n’ roll, surf and a whole heap of other crazy world sounds. A totally individual and unique release, You Me Bullets Love is totally out there but SO fun as well.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Monkey Fight Snake’

‘You Me Bullets Love’

‘Mahindra Death Ride’

‘Phone Baje Na’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!

Happy Easter!
