This three week course will help parents and carers navigate the pros and cons of the internet and other technology and give them the information they need to talk to their children about:
– Safe use of the internet, social networking and mobile phones
– Responsible internet citizenship
– Inappropriate or unsafe internet and mobile phone use

Adventures in the New Guinea Goldfields

Michael Waterhouse presents and talks about a rarely-seen 1930s silent film showing the aviation and mining activities of the largest gold mining company, Bulolo Gold Dredging, not to mention two extraordinary encounters with the local people. The film is in both black and white and colour and includes some remarkable anthropological footage.

Woollahra Council Local History Display

As part of Library & Information Week 2012, the Local History Centre will be opening its doors to residents and visitors with a special photographic display titled “Are you being served?” Come and see how your neighbourhood and suburb has evolved through the histories of houses and unique memorabilia.

THE GREEN DESERT – Part of the Headon Photo Festival

For the past four years, award winning photographer Peter Elfes has documented Lake Eyre and the Central and Eastern desert regions of Australia. The Green Desert exhibition is a journey through time into the ancient world of Australia’s desert interior with its infinite horizons and the ever changing landscape.

It presents the outback in spectacular colour, featuring low level aerial images with astonishing detail that capture the beauty and remoteness of this environmentally and culturally significant part of Australia.
