The New Thing 28/05/12 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Brad Mehldau Trio – Ode

Ode is the first original songs from the Brad Mehldau Trio in four years, and is their first studio recording since 2005’s Day Is Done. Featuring 11 original compositions, most of the songs are said to be tributes, thought of as odes or poems without words, which Mehldau describes as ‘pesky’! Smooth free flowing Jazz, a very fine release.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘M.B.’

‘Twiggy’

‘Kurt Vibe’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Evolution of Beauty’ by Tim Clarkson from the album Evolution of Beauty.

motion – The Drowned World

The latest release from the fantastic Listen/Hear Collective label is a sublime fusion of jazz, ambient and electronica with moments of glitch and drum and bass. A highly recommended release, you can catch motion at their album launch at 505 on June 13.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘It Is At Moments After I Have Dreamed…’

‘Liberty Stole My Shoes’ which you can download for free here: https://listenhearcollective.bandcamp.com/album/liberty-stole-my-shoes-free-download

Independent Track Of The Week

‘The House That Love Built’ by Major Tom And The Atoms.

Various Artists – The Best Of Perception & Today Records

The new compilation album on BBE has been compiled by American DJ Spinna and features a host of soul and funk classics and forgotten gems. From idols such as Dizzy Gillespie and Astrud Gilberto, to more unknowns like The Eight Minutes and Debby Taylor, BBE have done it again, an incredible compilation!

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Matrix’ by Dizzy Gillespie

‘One Life’ by Albert

‘Get Some Of This’ by Madhouse

‘Every Brother Ain’t A Brother’ by Joe Thomas

Concha Buika – En Mi Piel

A compilation album from the Spanish flamenco diva, Buika’s smoky Hispanic voice is truly sulty, sexy and passionate. Expect Jazz piano ballads, fiery flamenco and Hispanic soul.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Se Me Hizo Facil’

‘Jodida Pero Contenta’

‘Sueno Con Ella’
