Who’s Wally
Wally Wrightman was a jazz presenter at Eastside Radio from 1988 to 2001. “Who’s Wally” is a moving tribute to the long time promoter and lover of jazz music both abroad and in his adopted home of Australia.
This film was recorded, edited and directed by Morgan Fiebig and produced by Philip James as part of the Tropfest short film competition for entries using a iPhone.
“The real art of radio is to make it personal, make people feel like you’re talking to the; there’s something in the vice, something in the tone that can create a real relationship on air.”
To add further acknowledge his achievements his beautiful wife Jacqueline Rolfe lovingly prepared an engraved plaque to commemorate his time here at Eastside Radio. The plaque featured the above quote which was a favourite of his and was presented to the station by Jacqueline before she departed for England. The following photos were taken by Norman Nichols who is also responsible for nearly of the framed pictures of jazz artsits on display at Eastside Radio and especially including our much beloved and dearly missed Wally. We thank both Norman and Jacqueline for helping keep Wally alive and enjoying the station he gave so much of his time towards.
