Jazz Action Society & The Ben Jones Quartet

The Jazz Action Society in conjunction with Eastside Radio is proud to present for the first time the Ben Jones Quartet in Concert @ Paddington Woollahra RSL on July 25th 2012 –  7.30pm – 10pm.

In the second of our series of JAS concerts we will begin the evening with a short film presentation – excerpts from “The Story of Jazz”. Ben will then take to the stage on tenor saxophone and vocals accompanied by David Sidel on bass and Chuck Morgan on guitar.

Ben is well known here in Australia and Europe, having toured extensively with the late Tom Baker in 2001, playing at the renowned Ascona New Orleans Jazz Festival in Switzerland. Sine then he has returned several times and in 2003 was a member of the “All Star” festival band in Breda, Holland. Later that year he played a series of highly successful performances in Japan.

Ben’s saxophone is reminiscent of the sounds of the 30’s and 40’s tenor players, comfortable with all genres including mainstream, New Orleans, blues and ballads. His vocal style is smooth and swinging, relaxed yet purposeful, always mindful of the great vocal masters from the past.

His repertoire is taken from both well recognised jazz standards and his own original material, both vocal and instrumental.

The concert tonight will present a well rehearsed quartet of exceptionally masterful local musicians, comfortable in each others company with a mutual respect for their individual and collective talents.

This will be an extremely exciting night for Jazz Action and Eastside members and anyone who loves the energy of swing coupled with the smooth sounds of tenor sax and the delights of jazz guitar. This is a concert not to be missed.

It is with great pleasure that we welcome the Ben Jones Quartet to the JAS stage.

Enjoy!!!!
