Shelly Hughes – Where The Owl Was

Eastside Radio’s album of the week is Where The Owl Was by Shelly Hughes.

Where The Owl Was is the third album from the Byron Bay chanteuse, and where her previous releases adopted more of a jazz tinged folk style, Where The Owl Was sees Shelly foray into Soul music, with impressive and at times spine tingling results.

Shelly’s vocals hold the key to this release as she both lulls and caresses you with her elegant and smooth notes. However when she’s backed by a strong band like she is on Where The Owl Was, the result is an LP that stands firmly among the top current Australian Soul releases. Emotive and full of expression, Shelly’s voice has the ability to touch the listener, and comparisons with Eastside’s very own Lily Dior would not be far-fetched. If you were planning on preparing a romantic evening for someone soon but were a little unsure as to the soundtrack to go with it, look no further.

Where The Owl Was is a release by Shelly Hughes and Vitamin Records. For more information go to shelly.com.au
