The New Thing 16/07/12 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Mark Lockett – Sneaking Out After Midnight

Wellington born now Melbourne based drummer Mark Lockett has released his fourth album on the Rattle Jazz label. Where his previous release featured interpretations of the works of Ornette Coleman, Sneaking Out After Midnight features all original compositions by Mark and the added talents of Joel Frahm on sax and Orlando Le Fleming on bass. A classic feel with a hint of swing.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘For Heaven’s Sake’

‘Good Day For A Fog’

‘Tennis Elbow’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Take Flight’ by Shelly Hughes from the album Where The Owl Was

Neneh Cherry & The Thing – The Cherry Thing

Neneh Cherry is bringing back the ATTITUDE into jazz music. Jazz music, the original rebellious genre, often in many new releases lacks that rebellious touch – Neneh Cherry is smashing that theory to pieces. Raw, deep, energetic, The Thing go deep and Neneh’s vocals are fresh and cool as a cucmber. Awesome.

The latest release on the Soundway label is from the Colombian fusion group Ondatropica. Partly produced by the hugely talented Quantic, Ondatropica are firmly part of a group that are reviving Colombian music in South America.
