John has set The Showdown on a new, positive path by bringing two books in for discussion: Stephen R. Covey’s ‘The 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People’, and the classic ‘How To Win Friends And Influence People’ by Dale Carnegie. Since neither of us had read either book in any detail, today’s discussion was rather superficial, but perhaps in future weeks we will embellish further. Or perhaps we’ll forget all about it and these books and their uncomfortably positive messages will never be heard of in these parts again…
Musically, John brought the hipster cool with the Dirty Projectors’ new album ‘Swing Lo Magellan’ while Julian explored Alarm Will Sound’s acoustic versions of electronic whiz Aphex Twin. In between, Joey Baron, Ahmad Jamal, Sun Ra and so much more.
