The New Thing 30/07/12 Playlist & Albums

Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

Joe Chambers – Moving Pictures Orchestra

The third release by drummer Joe Chambers on the Savant Jazz record label was recorded live in New York late last year. A truly stunning collection of vibrant jazz with hints of swing and groove, one of the finest live recordings to come out this year.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Irina: 2nd Movement’

‘Clare De Bembe: 4t Movement’

‘Lonesome Lover’

Esperanza Spalding – Radio Music Society

Grammy award winning Esperanza Spalding has released her fourth beautiful album which flirts with jazz, R&B, groove and world. Incredibly easy listening, the quality of the instrumentation and vocals adds depth to the release too.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘I Can’t Help It’

‘Cinnamon Tree’

‘Black Gold’

‘Let Her’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Apocalypse’ by FLAP! from the album A Great Day For The Race.

The Cactus Channel – Haptics

The Cactus Channel came to our attention last year when they released their debut single ‘Pepper Snake’ whilst still at school! The now recent high school graduates have released their debut album on Hope Street Records, and the Melbourne 10 piece have delivered a corker! With sounds that would feel totally in place in a Tarantino film, the band serve up HOT soul/funk music.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Emanuel Ciccolini’

‘Under The Birdcage’

‘Tom Has Ideas’

‘The Colour Of Don Don’

Independent Track Of The Week

‘Heavenly Ho’ by Sydney band Lo Five. Download the track for free here: https://lofive.com.au/

Chet Faker – Thinking In Textures

There has been much hype about Chet Faker since he dropped his EP Thinking In Textures and for good reason too. His style of downtempo Nu-Soul is incredibly produced, and his smooth cool vocal style accompany it serenely. The more I listen to him the more and more I dig it.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Love & Feeling’

‘No Diggity’

‘Terms & Conditions’

Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
