Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!

McGann – Wending

The new release on Rufus Records from saxophonist Bern McGann is a milestone for the artist as he reached his 75th birthday recently. Featuring Warwick Alder on trumpet, Lloyd Swanton on acoustic bass, John Pochee on drums, Andrew Dickeson on drums and Brendan Clarke on acoustic bass, Wending is a collection of jazz interpretations and originals by McGann.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Mex’

‘Fried Bananas’

Fela Kuti & Egypt  80 – Live in Detroit 1986

A special release this one and the first from Fela Kuti for nearly 20 years. Recorded only months after Fela was released from prison after serving two years for currency trafficking, the Nigerian afro/jazz/funk superstar is in outstanding form as are Egypt 80. A triple CD, this is a live performance collectors will want to have.

Track played on The New Thing:

‘Just Like That’

A Track From Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week

‘Emanuel Ciccolini’ by The Cactus Channel from the album Haptics.

Various Artists – Lack Of Afro Presents: One Way (Remixes & Rarities)

A great album released by Freestyle Records. Producer Adam Gibbons, better known as Lack Of Afro, has amassed a collection of rare soul funk gems and remixed them into a modern fresh funky, breakbeat get down style. Production levels are stunning, the drums on the release are fantastic, a must have for fans of the likes of Mr Scruff and Meem.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Idle Time (Lack Of Afro Remix)’ by The New Mastersounds

‘Sugar Cane (Lack Of Afro Remix)’ by The Bahama Soul Club

‘Hurt Me So (Lack Of Afro Remix’  by Diplomats of Solid Sound

‘I Can’t Dance With You’ by The Fantastics VS Lack of Afro

Independent Track of The Week

‘Dharma Drums’ by Dig Rokwell from the album Sri Diger.

Voice Of Trees – enChanted EP

Multi instrumentalist Adelaide artist Voice Of Trees has released his debut EP. His sound is incredibly unique, featuring tribal drums and didgeridoos to create an indigenous sound with a twist.

Tracks played on The New Thing:

‘Primal Melody’

‘Didjah’

‘enChanted’
