Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors – My Little River

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is My Little River by Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors.

Having formed back in 2008, Darwin based Jess Ribeiro and the Bone Collectors have been performing and expanding their raw and emotive folk/roots style, culminating now in their debut album My Little River.

The strength of the band and My Little River lies primarily in the stunning vocals of leading woman Jess Ribeiro. Comparisons to Nancy Sinatra, Cat Power or indeed the more recent Lana Del Rey seem unavoidable as Jess so effortlessly places emotion in all of her notes and lyrics.

It is the lyrics, however, and the band’s overall ability to portray vivid stories through their song-writing and instrumentation that adds to the real depth of My Little River and makes the album so absorbing. Folk ballads, emotive choruses, foot stomping country blues and at times haunting tales all add to the intimate country muster feeling of My Little River.

Honest, touching and at times spine tingling, Jess Ribeiro & The Bones Collectors’ debut is a beautifully balanced folk record that keeps on revealing hidden depths the more you listen to it.

My Little River is an independent release by Jess Ribeiro and The Bone Collectors. For more information go to jessribeiro.com
