The New Thing 13/08/12 Playlist & Albums
Here’s what albums were featured on The New Thing today and which tracks were played!
Carol Welsman – Journey
Canadian Carol Welsman is well known jazz musician in her homeland. Journey is a lovely listen of vocal piano jazz with a light international flavour to it.
Tracks played on The New Thing:
‘Route 66’
‘Volons Vers La Lune / Fly Me To The Moon’
‘Never Make Your Move Too Soon’
‘You Came A Long Way From St. Louis’
The Field – Merle Takes A Holiday
Hot off their performance at Eastide’s live at 505 last week, we take a look at The Field’s third album Merle Takes A Holiday. Crafting out a niche sound for themselves between jazz, folk, country and blues, Merle Takes A Holiday is easy and soothing from start to finish.
Tracks played on The New Thing:
‘Anoure And Akbar’
‘Golden Slumber’
‘The Neighbourhood’
‘Merle Takes A Holiday’
Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors – My Little River
My Little River is the debut album from Jess Ribeiro & The Bone Collectors and it is also Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week this week! The band play a raw and emotive style of folk and roots all held together by the truly beautiful vocals of leading woman Jess Ribeiro. A vivid and absorbing album.
Tracks played on The New Thing:
‘Joe’
‘Stealing My Youth’
‘Truckyard’
‘Sweet Refined Things’
Independent Track Of The Week
‘Ain’t No Good’ by Sally T.
Easy Star All Stars – Thrillah
Following up their previously successful tribute albums Dub Side Of The Moon, Radiodread and Lonely Hearts Dub Band, Easy Star All Stars have now put their own unique take on Michael Jacksons Thriller. Hugely addictive, with the classic reggae, dub Easy Star feel, the album also has a jazz/funk twist with the additions of Israeli funk/hip hop group Hadag Nachash. Love this one.
Tracks played on The New Thing:
‘Wanna Be Startin Something’ (Feat. JoWil & Ruff Scott)
‘The Lady In My Life’ (Feat. Christopher Martin)
‘Dub It’
‘Baby Be Mine’ (Feat. The Green)
Be sure to tune in every Monday from 9.00 til 10.30am for your weekly dose of fresh new music!
